A Little Backstory on “Thread Lifts”

Let us take you back about 15 years ago to when thread lifts first made their “mark”. At that time, they were made from permanent threads with barbs that had the same lifting effect as a traditional face-lift surgery. Not only was it non-surgical but it could be completed in about an hour, allowing patients to literally pop in on their lunch break and have the procedure done. As time went on this type of thread lift lost popularity as the threads were permanent, which meant there were some scary side effects, such as popping out of the skin and future aging skin around the threaded areas would sag in odd places. It was proving to be an unsuccessful long-term solution.
Fast forward to modern day and we find that the thread lift is making a comeback, but with completely resorbable technology, practice and application. And the results….even better than before! So, what is this “amazing technology”? This newly improved technology uses resorbable sutures, known as PDO Threads (polydioxanone), composed of biodegradable polymers, that have been used in cardiovascular surgery for decades. These resorbable threads do their job by stimulating the skins subcutaneous layers and coaxing collagen production, then they disintegrate, leaving firmer, more youthful, beautiful skin behind.
